NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Three pigs of a rare domestic breed have made their debut at the Queens Zoo. The female hogs are on display in the farm section of the zoo, located in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.

Mulefoot hogs are different from other pigs because they have single non-cloven hooves, similar to a mule's (hence the name), according to a news release from the Wildlife Conservation Society.

The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy classifies the mulefoot as "critically rare" because farmers no longer breed them, WCS said.

The Wildlife Conservation Society's stated mission is to save wildlife and wild habitats around the world through science projects, conservation mission, education, and operation of an aquarium and several zoos in New York City, including the flagship Bronx Zoo.
