Dream come true for girl fighting rare disease: Meet CPD horses

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A young girl's wish came true outside Advocate Children's Hospital on Wednesday, thanks in part to the Chicago Police Department.

Kira Mammoser has been fighting ROHHAD, or Rapid Onset Obesity, with Hypothalamic Dysfunction, Hypoventilation and Autonomic Disregulation. She is one of only 75 people in the world living with the rare disease. There is no known cure.

Two weeks ago, the 11-year-old girl's father Chuck Mammoser asked if there was anything he could do for her she said she's like to have dinner and she'd like to live on a farm. She loves animals, but has had to stay at the hospital for the last nine months. Here health continues to decline, and her parents do not know how much longer she has to live.

Kira's father is a Chicago Police Officer serving in the Mounted Unit. He arranged a surprise visit for his daughter from two very special friends. Kira met two horses on Wednesday afternoon, and enjoyed an equestrian-themed party with all her favorite foods afterward.

Kira's mother, father and twin brother, Christian, hope she will be able to treasure these memories, and that the happiness she felt meeting Mahoney and Marvin will help her get through her treatment for however long she has left.

Truly, a dream come true for on Chicago girl.
