9-1-1 Call Led To Rescue Of Missing Women In Ohio

Posted: Updated:
CLEVELAND, Ohio -

A woman missing for 10 years escapes from her captor in Ohio, calling 9-1-1 to let police know she's still alive. That call leads to the rescue of two other women.

The three women who are believed to be have been held in a Cleveland home against their will are free today.

Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight are all out of the hospital and will now set off on rebuilding their lives.

Police arrested three men in connection with the case.

"We have several unanswered questions. Why were they taken? How were they taken? And how did they remain undetected in the city of Cleveland for this period of time?" Cleveland Mayor Frank G. Jackson said.

The world heard from Berry on Monday for the first time since she went missing in 2003, calling 9-1-1 to plea for help from the police.

"OK, are they on their way right now? I need them now," she said during

"We're going to send them as soon as we get a car open," a dispatcher answered.

Berry replied, "No, I need them now before he gets back."

DeJesus, missing since 2004, and Knight were discovered with Berry.

Sandra Luis, DeJesus' aunt, reacted to her niece's first moments of freedom by saying, "Words can't say it. She knew who we were. And she knew we were looking for her all this time."

Investigators were going through the house Berry says she was held in for the past decade overnight in hazardous-material suits.

The man who is believed to have helped her escape the home says there was no indication something was wrong.

Neighbor Charles Ramsey said, "Not a clue that that girl was in that house, or that anyone else was in there against their will because how he is, is he just comes out to his backyard, plays with the dogs, tinkering with his cars and motorcycles, goes back in the house."

Police also found a 6-year-old in the home. She's believed to be Berry's daughter.

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
