NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The TD Five Boro Bike Tour was held in Sunday, May 5, 2013.

Stricter security measures were put in place for the citywide ride in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings.

Riders were not allowed to carry backpacks, saddle bags, and hydration packs.

Riders were allowed to bring fanny packs and small bike frame bags that were no larger than 420 cubic inches.

Other bags would be confiscated and not returned, according to Bike New York, the organizer. Frame-mounted water bottles were allowed.

The stricter baggage rule at the TD 5 Boro Bike Tour is part of enhanced security put in place after the deadly bombings at the Boston Marathon.

The organizer said water stations would be available along the course so that riders can refill their bottles.

The annual 40-mile TD Five Boro Bike Tour began in Lower Manhattan and ends in Staten Island.

Police say a 51-year-old Michigan man died after suffering a heart attack during the ride.

Police say Michael Boren went into cardiac arrest after crossing the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge that links Queens and Manhattan.

Authorities say he was declared dead on arrival at New York Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Boren lived in Almont, Mich., north of Detroit.
