SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -

Paracyclist Ryan Boyle is on his way to competing in the 2016 Paralympic Games, but he says his journey was far from easy.  The Sandy Springs boy was 9 years old when a truck ran over him in 2003.

"It shattered the back of my skull. It skidded for 55 feet before coming to a complete stop," said Boyle.

Doctors told him he would never walk again.

"I spent two months in my coma. I was given no hope of coming out of my coma," Boyle said.

He is now inspiring hope in others. Boyle has written a book about his journey called When the Lights Go Out. He hopes his story of survival will encourage others to never give up the fight.

"Just never stop believing in yourself, and if you can think it, you can get it," Boyle said.

Ryan says after years of therapy, it was his support from his family and his faith in God that helped him face his challenges.

"I know he only gives you how much you can handle, and this is how much I can handle," Boyle said.
