Pelosi is the House Democratic leader. She's served in Congress for a quarter of a century representing a San Francisco district; she was the first woman speaker of the House. Attorney General Eric Holder gave last year's keynote address. Other recent speakers have included civil rights leader the Rev. Jesse Jackson, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., and former President Bill Clinton.

The event is the largest fundraiser for the Detroit chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and is considered one of the largest sit-down dinners in the country.
