Warning Signs That You're In Need Of A 'Digital Diet'

Posted: Updated:

Facebook, Twitter, email, Words with Friends – Americans have been pigging out on their smartphones more and more every day.

But some experts warn we are on the cusp of a digital overload.

When you realize smartphone is ruining your life, it might be time to take a break.

Is it time for you to cut back? Fox's Rob Olson has tips in the video report above to help you on your path to a "digital diet."

Among the tips to help you take back your life are...

  • Experts say keep phones off the table during meals;
  • Don't charge them in the bedroom;
  • And turn off any sounds that make you want to look.

A self-proclaimed digital junkie tried these tips and found out he is much better for it.

As far as Facebook is concerned, experts say don't post things right away. Experience the moments first, then share them later.

These tips come at the same time that a new study suggests using your cell phone may actually be contagious!

Researchers at the University of Michigan say people are twice as likely to pull out their phones to check their text messages or e-mail if they are with someone who is also doing it.

Scientists say this is because people may feel excluded if a friend is on their phone and they are not.
