Man pays restitution for 47 acre fire at Coconino National Forest

Posted: Updated:

The man found guilty of starting a fire that burned 47 acres of the Coconino National Forest has paid restitution.

Thomas Allen Taylor was determined responsible for the Buffalo Fire, north of Kendrick Park in Coconino National Forest, on Nov. 12, 2012.

Forest officials say Taylor burned a five-foot wide slash pile on national forest land near his home without a permit. The fire spread and eventually become uncontrollable.

Taylor paid $4,881 in restitution because of the number of forest employees and firefighters needed to suppress the fire.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire in four hours, but it wasn't fully extinguished until Dec. 3, 2012.

Taylor was also placed on three months unsupervised probation and is banned from Coconino National Forest.
