SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -

Prayers might have been answered for a Shelby Township church after three people are arrested for stealing from the place of worship over the Easter holiday. And investigators believe the suspected bandits could be connected to at least a dozen other breaking and entering cases in southeast Michigan.

Police identified the men as 17-year-old Logan Gerring of Sterling Heights, 19-year-old Eric Eby of Shelby Township and 20-year old Jesse Brusseau-Meray of Riley Township. The trio is suspected in more than a dozen burglaries in Macomb County, including the break-in at three churches. One of the crimes happened Sunday night at St. Therese of Lisieux in Shelby Township. That's where they allegedly broke into a safe and stole more than $40,000 in donations. Father Larry Zurawski said the whole thing was devastating.  "I saw the broken glass and the door. And the safe door with a big hole in it and all the money gone. I really felt violated and its a terrible feeling."

Police described the crew as being sophisticated and came prepared. They had special equipment to get into safes and were also carrying information about radio systems including instructions on how to disarm alarms on buildings and businesses. The men are also accused of burglaries at St. Luke Lutheran in Clinton Township and St. Lawrence in Utica.

The 17-year-old suspect even worked at St. Lawrence. Police say they recovered donation envelopes from all three churches, adding they did not try to cash them or destroy them.

The young men are also accused of breaking into a dozen businesses, including a police supply store where they allegedly took badges, handcuffs, tactical lights and other police equipment. Investigators finally arrested the men because of an attempted break-in at a Speedway gas station at M53 and 23 Mile Road on Monday morning.

One man was arrested on the scene, two others were arrested later. Investigators say the young men had been living it up with all their loot.

Shelby Twp Police Lt. Thomas Kohl said, "they seem to be buying a lot of expensive toys, one suspect even said he was taking flying lessons," Kohl said. But investigators added his flying days are done for now.
