Runner: Marathon community stronger after Boston tragedy

MILFORD, Mich. (WJBK) -

We first met Julie Cauvin when she and her family returned from the Boston Marathon.  It's been a roller coaster of emotions, but finally with recent events there is a little relief.

"These people have ruined so many lives.  It's absolutely senseless," she said.

Cauvin, her husband, Dave, and her daughter, Paige, were all emotional earlier this week as they talked about being separated at the finish line after the deadly explosions Monday afternoon.

"Which was probably only for about ten minutes, but it seemed like eternity," she said.

Now she is somewhat comforted.  She can tell her daughter law enforcement is getting the bad guys.

"Looking at it as a mom, I'm glad, I'm ecstatic that this will come to an end," Cauvin said.

However, it's little consolation given the lives and the limbs that were lost and the suffering of so many families.

"It still doesn't take away from all of the people that are still hurt and that have lost so much," Cauvin remarked.

She also said she and so many others will continue to run.  If anything, this tragedy has made the marathon community that much stronger.

"They have brought athletes together.  They've brought the United States together, but they're not going to rock the marathon world.  We're pooling and doing more runs and raising more money, and we're going to be out there stronger.  We're going to be out there faster, and we're going to be out there with a cause."
