City Council members compromise on plan to end food tax

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX -

We may have an agreement out of Phoenix on what to do about the food tax that the city created during the height of the recession.

Even though economic times have improved, the tax remains and some aren't happy about it.

On Thursday, there was word of a compromise between City Council members DiCiccio, Williams and Nowakowski who had been at odds over continuing the tax.

They want the City Manager to get rid of half of the food tax by January 2014 and the other 50 percent would remain on until March 31, 2015.

They're asking the City Manager to make this work without cutting police or fire personnel.
