Director Chris Columbus: I Want To Continue To Work

Posted: Updated:

Chris Columbus is usually the man behind the camera, directing the "Harry Potter" movies, Home Alone, and other hit movies. this morning he talked to Steve and Maria about his new venture: writing. His new book "House of Secrets" is the first in a planned fantasy series. Chris talked about how he started writing it, then put it in a drawer for years, pulled it back out years later and then finally completed it.

They also talked about how much more freedom there is with pen and paper versus a camera and a studio movie budget. Chris also shares a story about writing "Gremlins" and how only one Oscar winning director bothered to read it...and eventually used his clout to get it made. Columbus also talked about how Bruce Springsteen is his inspiration and what he considers the greatest movie ever made. Sorry Maria, not "Home Alone"!

It's the first book in a new fantasy series and has even gotten positive reviews from JK Rowling...author of the Harry Potter series. Chris will be at the LA Times book festival this Saturday at USC.

He and co-writer Ned Vizzini will be talking about the book at noon, then signing copies afterwards.
