CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Mayor Rahm Emanuel met with his public safety team on Tuesday to ensure the City of Chicago is remaining vigilant in the wake of the bombing at the Boston Marathon finish line on Monday.

The terror attack killed three people, including an 8-year-old boy, and wounded more than 170.

Emanuel met with OEMC Director Gary Schenkel, CPD Superintendent Garry McCarthy, CPD First Deputy Superintendent Al Wysinger, Fire Commissioner Jose Santiago and Chief of Staff Lisa Schrader.

Passengers getting on and off trains at Chicago's Union Station can see for themselves the security measures that Amtrak and Metra are taking to keep commuters safe.

Bomb-sniffing dogs and security officers have been deployed to the station Tuesday. Amtrak has increased patrols and sweeps of stations, trains and railroad property. It is also sharing information with local, state and national law enforcement.

Amtrak is telling customers to be extra careful not to leave their bags unattended and to report to police or Amtrak any unattended bags near the trains, vehicles or the station.

Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari says Amtrak security has been beefed up at all its stations. He also says that trains are running on schedule.

Metra has also increased officers at its downtown Chicago terminals and onboard trains, according to a statement.

O'Hare and Midway airports continue to maintain a high level of vigilance and are working with local and federal governments, city Dept. of Aviation spokesman Greg Cunningham said.

Travelers may notice an increase in the number of aviation and police officers, as well as canines at the airports.

The Chicago Police Dept., which provides security for the CTA, was not aware of any threats against the city, but is monitoring events closely and communicating with law enforcement officials as a precautionary measure, according to statement from police spokesman Adam Collins.

Collins said the department has offered assistance and resources to the Boston Police Department, but no help has so far been required.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
