New Technology To Treat Uterine Fibroids

Posted: Updated:
Los Angeles, CA -

(FOX 11) Uterine fibroids are the leading causes of hysterectomies and a common cause of complications in pregnancy. The fibroids are masses of tissue that grow both inside and outside the uterus.

While they are generally non-cancerous, they cause all kinds of suffering including extreme cramping and heavy bleeding.

While fibroids can start forming at any age, women in their late 30s and early 40s are at greatest risk of having problems with them.

Dr. Bruce Clucas from UCLA Medical Center talked to Studio 11 LA about fibroids.     He is one of the pioneers of fibroid embolization -- a procedure where you inject tiny plastic pellets into the arteries that feed the tumor.
