SEDONA, Ariz. -

Rescue crews have rescued a 50-year-old Canadian woman who got stuck on a ledge in Oak Creek Canyon.

Coconino County Sheriff's Office was called when Elise Heon missed her 11 a.m. check out on Thursday morning at the Junipine Resort.

CCSO spokesperson Erika Wiltenmuth says Heon's belongings were found in her room and there were no signs of forced entry or foul play.

A resort staff member told deputies they remembered Heon asking about nearby hiking areas. Search and rescue units began searching the area throughout Thursday night and Friday morning.

A woman in the area of Don Hoel's cabins called deputies at 8 a.m. Friday saying she heard someone calling for help.

Search and Rescue crews were able to find and talk to Heon, who was stranded on a narrow ledge about 700 feet from the bottom of the canyon.

Wiltenmuth says she was alert and talking to rescuers. The rescue team raised Heon up to the rim of the canyon using a mechanical rope and pulley system. She will then be transported by helicopter to Slide Rock.

She has refused further medical treatment.

Rescuers from Coconino County Sheriff's Office, Flagstaff Fire Department, Sedona Fire Department, and DPS Rangers participated.
