Bears, Urlacher reject ties to group that opposes gay marriage

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Some high-profile names in professional sports are denying association with a group that opposes gay marriage. The Chicago Bears and former linebacker Brian Urlacher rejected ties to the Ruth Institute.

On their website, the institute posted raffle items from the Bears along with messages thanking them for supporting its efforts.

The items include a signed Urlacher jersey and a signed black and white photo of Walter Payton.

Urlacher told the Chicago Tribune that he signs a lot for charity and he doesn't always know where it's going.

The Bears also issued a statement, which said both items were personal donations and do not represent the team's views.
