Near West Side tech company Table XI offers employees mega perks

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Where else can you work barefoot, have a hydraulic-motored desk greet you, a private chef cook low-fat meals and a boss who burns calories while conducting meetings from his office on a treadmill desk?

"In a day you can lose where you're at, you can walk eight miles, two miles an hour, four hours of desk work becomes an eight mile walk," said Josh Golden, CEO of Table XI.

Technology company Table XI is bringing Silicon Valley culture to Chicago - Golden transformed the culture of his eleven year old company a few years back in order to attract top talent.

"The Facebooks, the Googles, the Groupons, all these people battling each other for the best of the best, the brightest of the brightest engineering talent and so you have to build a pitch," said Golden in an interview with Fox 32's Tisha Lewis.

Part of Golden's pitch are health conscious perks the Near West Side company offers to promote an optimal lifestyle including offering employees made to order meals and a daily lunch by Chef Aram Reed who spends each morning hand-picking fresh food from Chicago's markets.

"No processed foods at all so I'm making sure that I'm controlling all the salt levels and all the fats that go inside," said Chef Aram Reed.

Mother of triplets, Subha Sriram has lost sixteen pounds in six months and started the company's weight-loss competition.

"We have been weighing ourselves every week so every Tuesday there is a weigh in," said Sriram.

And thanks to a company pool, a cash prize awaits the person who sheds the most but that's just the beginning.

Most people spend their work day sitting but at Table XI, employees stand. It's not your typical work place, employees are encouraged to work out while working. Golden believes a healthy mind starts with a healthy body.

"We've got the standing work spaces. In fact we also use standing as a way of working in meetings," said Golden.

Extended sitting reportedly slows the body's metabolism and can lead to heart disease and Type 2 Diabetes.

Table XI also provides employees with anti-fatigue standing desk mats that help with back pressure.

Golden says each perk adds up to a formula for success and Subha Sriram agrees.

"Just being able to make small changes is huge and I think offering that up to everybody I think is very good," said Sriram.
