A kitchen fire at Paz De Cristo left the center with significant damages and an inability to continue cooking meals for the less fortunate.
"The fire department said either arson or cigarette but most likely arson," says Arlen Westling.
The fire on March 27 tore through duct work inside the center's kitchen and seriously damaged the back wall and ceiling area. The kitchen is temporarily closed until it's repaired and approved by the Maricopa Health Department.
Paz De Cristo provides dinner and food boxes to the homeless and the east valley's less fortunate.
The center has still been able to provide meals with the help of local restaurants, organizations and individuals like RigaTony's, Native New Yorker, Art Klaum and the CIC group from St. Tim's, Oregano's and many more.
Although Paz De Cristo is thankful for the help they've already received, they still need more donations and volunteers until the construction is finished.
Several different trades need to be coordinated for the construction and they haven't been given an estimate for when the kitchen will be back in operation.
