Los Angeles, CA -

(FOX 11) This is not going to come as a shocker: LA mansions use a lot of power.

But a map released by UCLA's California Center for Sustainable Communities shows just how much the rich are using.

"This is the first time that we're really able to see what consumption patterns are in the city," said map creator Jacki Murdock. "It really helps reveal the connections between land use and energy demands and can help decision-makers better plan the energy grid to address future demand."

So how was the research compiled? The school says it used power usage data (commercial and residential properties) from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
