FBI joins investigation of 3 roadway shootings

Posted: Updated:
PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -

The FBI has joined state and local police investigating three shootings involving vehicles on southeast Michigan roadways. FBI spokesman Simon Shaykhet says the agency is working with authorities on the shootings. No one has been hurt but investigators believe the incidents are 'probably related.'

Coffee talk at Brewed Awakenings off of Michigan Avenue in Pittsfield Twp on Wednesday morning focused on what happened on Michigan Ave just East of Industrial on Monday. Someone shot at a 72-year-old woman as she drove at about 6:15 p.m. She wasn't hurt but the bullet hit her car door. Deep reason for concern that a roadway shooter is on the loose.

Kim Kaster both lives and works near where the shooting was reported. She said the whole thing is frightening."It's right here where my kids are. They drive that way to get to school. It's very, very scary."

Just about seven miles away at nearby Bridgewater Township two other shootings happened on Austin Road between Schneider and Ernst Roads.

Pittsfield Twp police telling Fox 2 there is a joint meeting with state police to try to figure out who is behind the three shootings which happened within 15 minutes of each other.
Investigators trying to see if the same person is responsible.

Memories are still fresh from the I-96 shooting suspect who police caught. That shooting spree had people dodging their regular routes.  Something this shooter has already affected in Pittsfield.

Driver Jim Smallish said, "I watch my route. I have business to do up and down 12. I'll probably only approach from a different direction."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Michigan State Police Brighton post at 810-227-1051 or the Pittsfield Township Police Department at 734-822-4911.
