PHOENIX -

Two men have been killed after a Nissan pickup truck slammed into a bus stop near 67th Avenue and Indian School Road Tuesday morning.

A third pedestrian, a 36-year-old male, was rushed to an area trauma center with non-life threatening injuries and is expected to be ok.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Trent Crump says the truck's driver was heading the wrong way.

The pedestrians were in the process of boarding the bus, which was parked at the time.

"The vehicle crossed the center line and literally went between that bus and that bus stop bench, striking the pedestrians who were loading on that bus," said Crump.

Anthony Johnson was already on the bus when the crash occurred.

"We don't know where the truck came from... I was in shock, everybody else who was off the bus ran and tried to help. It just came out of nowhere and just hit the poor guy. He was going to work," said Johnson.

The truck's driver involved in the crash was also transported to a hospital.  He sustained a minor injury.

Crump added, "There was some indication that he was under the influence.  He has admitted some drug use to our officers from last night so we are investigating that as for being the cause of why the driver crossed the center line."

The driver of the truck, Raymond J. Barela, was booked into the Maricopa County Jail for two counts of manslaughter, one count of aggravated assault, and one count of aggravated DUI because his driving privilege was suspended.

Of the fatalities, only one has been identified. That victim is 47-year-old Jesus Antonio Martinez Chavez. Police have not been able to locate the next-of-kin for the second victim, a 42-year-old male, who died during surgery.
