Accident causes lockdowns of Yuma schools

Updated:

YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - Several schools in Yuma were briefly locked down Friday morning as a result of suspicious circumstances surrounding a hit & run automobile accident.

Police say the incident started when five people got out of a vehicle involved in a collision and ran off. According to police, unspecified weapons were then found next to a nearby building.

The schools were locked down as a precaution after police received calls reporting a person seen running toward a high school.

Police say that person has been taken into custody and that authorities were looking for the other people who ran from the car.

The school lockdowns have been lifted.
