DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

Two people were killed and four others injured after an SUV fleeing police slammed into car in DeKalb County on Wednesday, according to police.

The crash occurred in the 4000 block of Snapfinger Woods Drive at around 7 p.m.

DeKalb police were conducting a neighborhood sweep when a SWAT car pulled over an SUV on a traffic stop. The driver, identified as 27-year-old Jeremiah Warthen, then rammed a squad car and fled.

Police said they lost sight of the vehicle, and then later discovered that it had run into the car, which had six people inside.

"Lost sight of him. We rolled up on the car. He had an accident with a small red sedan vehicle with six occupants," said Asst. DeKalb County Police Chief Dale Holmes.

Police say 57-year-old Alicia Moxley and 3-year-old Jordan Haynes were pronounced dead at the scene. Two additional adults were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in serious and critical conditions. Two other children were taken to Children's Healthcare at Egleston, also in serious and critical conditions, according to police.

Warthen suffered minor injuries, and was taken into custody. A family member of the suspect was also arrested for obstruction after allegedly coming onto the crime scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
