Hashtags are a part of life on Twitter and Instagram and now it appears that Facebook will be rolling out hashtags as well, which has sparked an online debate.
Facebook officials aren't talking about it, but we're told the social network is preparing to roll out hashtags to compete with Twitter.
Twitter uses hashtags to pool all the messages around a single topic or new event.
On Facebook, hashtags would link themes and topics as well.
The main knock against hashtags is that they can be confusing and annoying to new users. One study states if you use hashtags, the number of followers decreases.
