A valley freeway was shut down most of the night due to a deadly motorcycle crash and a man jumping to his death.
This happened just after midnight on the Loop 101 and Interstate 17.
Police say the motorcyclist was heading north on I-17 and while using the off-ramp to get onto Loop 101, he lost control, crashed into a wall and fell several hundred feet onto the 101 roadway.
He died at the scene.
Authorities have only said the motorcyclist was a 20-year-old male.
Police say they believe the man was speeding. He was wearing a helmet, but it came off in the impact. There's no word yet on whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
Just when it looked like the scene was clear, things picked right back up.
Around 4 a.m., 9-1-1 calls were placed about a body on the road. Authorities say a man in his 50s jumped from the Loop 101 ramp onto the I-17 roadway.
Department of Public Safety officials say the registration in a nearby car matched the jumper and believe he committed suicide. The car was left running with the radio on and was parked.
The roadways were closed in the area during the investigation.
Officials say these tragedies are not connected.
No names have been released.
