DETROIT (WJBK) -
Police have identified the body of a woman found in an overgrown field on the city's northeast side last week.
Family members told us the body found on East Louisiana is 23-year-old Aisha Fletcher, who had been missing since early January.
It was January 7 when she was last seen leaving her Romulus apartment. Her baby boy and boyfriend were the last to see her say goodbye. Her grandmother truly believes Fletcher trusted someone she should not have and that is why she is no longer with us today.
"I have my suspicions, and I'm trying not to think about them," said Gena Benson. "He threw her in the alley like she's a piece of trash. That's a lot of nerves. She has a son that will never get to know who his mommy is."
The medical examiner has not yet released Fletcher's cause of death, but her family is convinced that she was murdered and her killer should not be allowed to go free.
"Every day that demon's going to be on that person's back. You will never have a peaceful day, I mean that, never have a peaceful day," Benson said. "This is somebody's she known for a long time, you'd better believe that, and I don't care what [anybody says]."
"Aisha was a gem no matter what anybody [says]," she added. "Baby, I love you. Won't miss you because I'm going to still always have you [in my heart]."
The Detroit Police Department is handling this case, and Benson truly believes they will get to the bottom of what happened.
If you have any information that could help police, share it and give them a call.
