Joliet authorities are investigating two separate fires that ignited Saturday in the southwest suburb, one at a house and the other at a storage facility.
The house fire occurred at 1:30 a.m. in the 900 block of Elizabeth Street, causing extensive damage to both floors of the two-story house, a fire official said. Firefighters were on the scene for more than three hours. The house was unoccupied.
The second fire occurred about noon at a storage facility in the 500 block of Walnut Street.
The fire started in a rubbish pile in an outside stairwell and did not get into the building, a fire official said. Damage to the building was minor. Firefighters were on the scene for less than an hour.
The cause has not been determined for either fire.
