FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. -

A mother threw her baby out of a burning apartment building to safety on Thursday.

The blaze destroyed a building at the Weatherly Walk Apartments on Knight Way.

The apartment manager said that she and her maintenance staff had to help residents out of the burning building.

One mother had to drop her baby from a second-story apartment into the arms of Chuck Faison.

"She threw the baby out the door. I cradled the baby, got the baby down," Faison said.

The mother was also able to jump to safety from the window.

It's not known what caused the fire, but firefighters said that the entire building was a loss.

There were no immediate reports of injuries. Some pets were reportedly lost in the blaze.

Several residents said they lost everything they had in the fire.
