CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Former Bears player Chris Zorich pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court to misdemeanor charges, admitting he didn't file income taxes from 2006 to 2009 — though he made more than $1 million during those years.
Zorich, who turned 44 Wednesday, now awaits sentencing — following a pre sentence report done by court officials. He faces as little as probation or up to 16 months in prison, the Sun-Times is reporting.
Judge Daniel Martin asked Zorich about his crime. Zorich, dressed in a black suit with a black tie, said: "I chose to not file my taxes (between) 2006 and 2009 in a timely fashion."
"And you knew you were wrong to do this?"
"Yes, your Honor," Zorich said.
As part of the plea agreement, Zorich has agreed to pay $71,000 in back taxes.
