Cook County Sheriff's deputies evicting residents from a Grand Boulevard neighborhood home found a three-foot python inside the bathroom, and were forced to evict it as well.
The sheriff's Eviction Unit was enforcing a court-ordered eviction in the 500 block of East Bowen Avenue at 8:40 a.m. Tuesday when officers found a python in a bathroom aquarium, according to a statement from the sheriff's office.
No one was home when the eviction unit arrived and the city's Department of Animal Care and Control was called to the unoccupied apartment to remove the snake, sheriff's police said. The Burmese python was not injured.
State law prohibits owning dangerous animals -- including poisonous and life-threatening reptiles, authorities said. The city also has an ordinance prohibiting dangerous animals.
It was not immediately known if the snake owners would be cited or charged.
On Feb. 27, the eviction unit found a two-foot alligator in an aquarium in the 4500 block of West George Street, sheriff's police said. Again, no one was home at the time.
