MESA, Ariz. -
A Mesa mother is facing one count of child abuse after police say she tried to drown her young son in a puddle.
It happened at a Mesa residence on Friday, after rain storms drenched the valley.
Victoria Zenaida Soliz allegedly forced his head into a puddle numerous times, and then started giving him what appeared to be CPR. A witness saw her and told her to stop.
"His face was in the water for a little bit and that's what concerned me, that's when I came out," said witness Roger Thrailkill. "She was kind of playing with him, like he was an airplane it seemed like for a second, but then she was putting his head underwater so I went ahead and asked her to stop."
Thrailkill said when he asked her to stop a second time, she did, and that's when he took the boy inside and called 911.
According to court records, Soliz told detectives she did it because "Jesus" told her to "drown her son."
Soliz admitted to doctors had been using methamphetamine to self-medicate her schizophrenia, documents allege.
She later told detectives her son became stuck to the ground and affected by some kind of electrical shock. She said that she put water on his face and he began choking, so she performed CPR, the report shows.
The 3-year-old boy was shivering and wet, wearing only a short sleeved T-shirt, shorts, and socks. He taken to the hospital as a precaution but will be ok.
30-year-old Soliz was jailed on felony child abuse.
