Bob Weisz spent 34 years patrolling the streets of Los Angeles as a cop with the LAPD, and when he retired, he had nothing but good things to say -- still does in fact.
Since the Christopher Dorner controversy exploded over allegations that the LAPD was unfair (as he wrote about in his widely quoted manifesto), we've been hearing from you -- our viewers, our website visitors, and from cops past and present -- who agreed with his disparaging perspective of the department while at the same time denouncing his violence.
We need that input -- that's where we generate most of our stories from, and we want all input, not just some that furthers a particular point of view. That's why when ex cop Weisz wrote in, we wanted to interview him too, and that's what FOX 11 legal analyst Robin Sax did today. He told her:
"At times, when I did not get promoted, I had a tendency to want to blame others, but the bottom line, I had only myself to blame. I once took a detective trainee interview (I was on the Detective list) 25 times in one division and never would be selected. After each interview I would write down the questions asked and made sure I had the right answer for the next one. Soon I had all the questions down perfect and still got what I felt was the run around. When I finally took things into my own hands and studied hard, worked hard, and prepared myself for the next sergeant's test. The hard work paid off and I was one of the top officers that year promoted to sergeant. I stopped blaming others."
We'll be hearing more from him on future broadcasts. In the meantime, we are trying to maintain balance and objectivity in our coverage, which can be a challenge, but we are meeting it.
No doubt not everyone in a certain new, large building downtown would agree with that because the vast majority of people we've heard from have been complaining about, not complimenting, the police.
Certain projects, such as adding a well thought-out family room can be a wise investment, as they do add to the value of the home. Other projects, however, allow little opportunity to recover the costs when it's time to sell.
