Phoenix Police have released a sketch of a suspect in an armed robbery at a valley JCPenney store.

On Feb. 27, just after 8 p.m., police officers responded to an armed robbery at 1700 West Bethany Home Road.

Officers were told a black male entered the JCPenney and initially pretended to be a customer at the jewelry counter.

A 72-year-old female worker was manning the counter. The man asked to see a ring inside the glass counter, and once she unlocked the counter, the suspect pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and jumped over the counter.

The employee ran to a safe location while the suspect removed jewelry from the case, valued at $13,000. He placed the items in a white garbage bag and fled the store, entering the passenger seat of a 1996-1997 white Chevy Suburban with a silver roof rack. It was driven by an unknown male.

The suspect is described as a black male, 40-49 years old, 6' tall, with a pockmarked face.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call 602-262-6141 or 480-WITNESS.
