PHOENIX -
An all-star Phoenix Suns player is speaking out about his heart condition and collaborating with an apparel brand to help bring awareness to the disease.
Phoenix Suns power forward Channing Frye found out about his Congenital Heart Disease condition after a routine physical for the Suns in 2012. He learned he had an enlarged heart and dilated cardiomyopathy, defects that occur while the fetus is developing.
Approximately 1 in 100 children are affected by CHD and about 56 percent of sudden deaths in athletes were due to CHD, according to the American Heart Association.
Frye was placed on the injured list, but is left to wonder if he'll ever be able to play in the NBA again.
Not someone to sit on the sidelines, Frye is using the Frye Family Foundation to raise awareness to Congenital Heart Disease.
The former University Of Arizona Wildcat is partnering with Arizona based fashion brand, Sportiqe Apparel, to sell "One Heart" T-shirts. A portion of the $35 T-shirts will go to his foundation.
The Frye Family Foundation hopes to raise awareness to CHD and help adults, children and athletes identify potential heart problems early on.
