Woman kicked out of gym for using cell phone tells her story

Posted: Updated:

(MyFoxBoston.com) – The policy is clear: no cell phones while working out and it's posted in plain sight at the planet Fitness in Dedham.

Tina Santoro Asmar admits she was on the phone while working out on the elliptical machine. Her membership was revoked, but she is upset at how she was treated. Watch Gene's interview with Asmar for more.

Statement from Planet Fitness spokeswoman McCall Gosselin:

"Planet Fitness prides itself on providing a unique, enjoyable environment where everyone can feel comfortable and where lasting, active lifestyles are built. We are also known for our absurdly low prices, our Lunk™ Alarm, and most of all for our Judgement Free Zone® philosophy, which means members can relax, get in shape, and have fun without being judged by others.

In an effort to preserve this positive environment, and for the safety of our nearly 4 million members nationwide, it is corporate policy that cell phone use is only permitted in the lobby. Use of cell phones on the gym floor or while using equipment is dangerous for individual members and distracting to others
."
