The Chief of The Los Angeles Police Department sent word to the force Friday that he's serious about a review and examination of the department's policies and practices in the tragic aftermath of the Christopher Dorner case.
FOX 11 Legal Analyst Robin Sax obtained an inter-departmental email Chief Charlie Beck sent to "the men and women of the LAPD" on Friday. Then subject of the email: A review of the Christopher Dorner case.
In the email, Chief Beck goes into detail explaining his, "commitment to ensuring the values and principles of fairness and equality are ingrained in the culture of this organization (LAPD)."
Chief Beck says the department has made "great strides" but adds, "we are not perfect."
FOX 11 Legal Analyst Robin Sax says: Sometimes it takes great tragedy to bring about change. Or at least, to take a look to see if change is necessary. In the last few weeks, many officers from LAPD have said to me they would guess that LAPD is concerned, perhaps even worried, that the skeletons of the department's disciplinary system and culture are being vetted in the very public eyes through the media. Officers who have named names have suggested that many command staff members and supervisors could be shaking in their boots. Whether worried or just addressing the very real concerns raised in the Christopher Dorner case, it is clear that the LAPD cares about the story we have been reporting. And that may be the start of a something good to come from all the tragedy of the Dorner case.
