Tucson school district's board approves more cuts

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - The Tucson Unified School District's governing board continues to whittle away at a projected budget shortfall by approving cuts to save nearly $6 million in administration, central office and department staffs.

The cuts approved Tuesday night eliminate at least 30 jobs in areas such as technology, research and the board's office, though there will be additional ones resulting from a $2.1 million reduction in operations.

According to the Arizona Daily Star, the cuts approved so far add up to approximately $14 million of the projected $17 million deficit.

The board previously approved closing 11 campuses and making changes that affected teachers, librarians, counselors and school administrators.
