Man Dies In North Philly Fire Despite Wife's Attempt To Save Him

PHILADELPHIA -

An elderly man is dead and a firefighter is hurt after a house caught fire early Tuesday morning in North Philadelphia.

Fire crews rushed to the 100 block of East Eleanor Street just after 4 a.m.

Neighbors and relatives tell us the man's wife heard his screams but was unable to save him.

The firefighter who was hurt is expected to be OK.

Fire officials say a space heater started the fire. There were also no working smoke detectors inside the home.
