TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - U.S. Rep. Ron Barber is slamming the U.S. Postal Service's decision to shutter a mail processing center in Tucson and ship all outgoing mail in southern Arizona to Phoenix.

The Morris K. Udall Post Office on Cherrybell Avenue processed its final batch of outgoing mail last week. Barber says the decision not only costs 300 jobs but also is the end of Tucson postmarks for most mail in southern Arizona. The only way to get a local postmark now is to wait in line and have a letter hand cancelled.

Barber says he wrote a letter to Postmaster General Patrick R. Donahoe warning him that businesses that rely on speedy mail delivery will see increased wait times and consumers will see other service cuts.
