CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Chicago ranked fourth on Forbes' list of America's most miserable cities for 2013. Chicago was behind Detroit, which topped the list, Flint, Michigan and Rockford, which ranked No. 3.
A little further down the list at number nine is Lake County in our Northern Suburbs.
Forbes looked at cities with more than 250,000 people and based their list on nine factors: unemployment rates, commute times, violent crime, weather, home values, foreclosures, property taxes, income taxes, and whether people in general are moving into a city or moving out.
Why is Chicago so high on the list? In a synopsis of Chicago's drawbacks, Forbes cited long commutes, falling home values, bad winters and high foreclosure rates. It also said a lot more people are moving out than moving in. It did not mention Chicago's crime, though that may still have been a factor.
About Lake County, the list notes it's one of the wealthiest places in America, but it says home prices are way down and the commutes are long. The weather was a knock as well.
Forbes says Rockford has high unemployment and high property taxes.
