NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say two men set a Newark man on fire after he allegedly tried to break into their van this weekend.
33-year-old Leaver Harper of Newark and 43-year-old Deon Mitchell of Union Township face numerous charges, including aggravated arson, aggravated assault and robbery.
Newark police say the pair allegedly doused the victim with an accelerant and set him on fire Saturday afternoon. The man remained hospitalized Sunday in stable condition, but further details on his injuries were not disclosed.
The victim's name was not disclosed.
Neither Harper nor Mitchell could be reached for comment on Sunday. It was not known if either man has retained an attorney.
