Woman who suffered brain injury returns home for Valentine's Day

LOGANVILLE, Ga. -

This Valentine's Day will be special for a Loganville couple. Jennifer Ford, 30, a wife and mother of two is learning to walk and talk again after suffering a brain injury in a car crash. It's something family members weren't sure would ever happen.

"To see how she is today compared to where she was, even two to three weeks ago, it's really amazing," said husband Darren Ford.

The last three months have been a story of devotion for the married couple. They've been together for  the last 12 years.

"I love my husband. I tell him all the time," said Jennifer.

Jennifer suffered the brain injury in November of 2012, and it put her in a coma. During the last few months, her husband has stayed by his wife's side, learning to assist her and helping her recover. He recalls her first words to him.

"I tell you, the first thing she said to me -- she had a procedure on her leg. That night she woke up and out of the blue woke up and said, ‘take me home,'" said Darren.

They will be going home on Valentine's Day. "I'm ready to get home to the kids," said Jennifer.

She received her graduation certificate from the Shepherd Center, but her outpatient therapy will continue. It's expected there will be remarkable changes in the coming months and even the next few years.

"We know the brain continues to heal and we expect she will continue to make rapid gains," said speech therapist Alexis Venuti.

Darren says it's been a very emotional ride.

The Loganville community has been raising money to help the Ford family pay its mounting medical bills, and a motorcycle ride to benefit the family is in the works.

For decades, Atlantans have woken up to Tom Sullivan on their radios.  But you might not know that he's also somewhat of an expert eBay seller, and he's got quite a story to tell.

They say the third time's a charm, and that's certainly the case for Candice Glover.  A third try on American Idol was just what she needed, and on Thursday night she was crowned the season 12 champ.
