A Michigan State Police trooper was shot in the leg while track downing a pair of men wanted for impersonating officers and robbing up to 10 people.

The shooting happened early Monday in the 5300 block of Townsend on the city's east side. State police and members of the Detroit police department approached the abandoned home where the suspects were believed to be hiding. Police say a gunfight ensued. One of the suspect's was shot in the hand.

Captain Monica Yesh says the trooper, a 12-year veteran, was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital for treatment. He is expected to fully recover. "He's doing just fine," said Yesh.

The two suspects were taken into custody. They told police that two more men were held up in the abandoned home. After a four-hour standoff, members of a special response team moved into the home only to find it empty.

Sources say the suspects used bicycle lights to stop motorists and pretended be officers before robbing several people.
