It's not every day you're invited to play Carnegie Hall, but Peachtree City resident Adrian Romoff has had the honor three times. While his experience is impressive, his age is even more surprising.
"I'm 8-years-old, ma'am," said Romoff.
Romoff is what some might call a child prodigy, but piano wasn't his first instrument.
"When Adrian was a little boy, I brought home a cello. You never know who is Mozart and who is a Michelangelo in your house until you give to try. Everybody said, oh, ok, ok. I said let him try, what is the big deal?" said Adrian's mother, Olga Romoff.
Olga couldn't find a cello teacher so she switched him to the violin, the instrument she played. But when Adrian was four she overheard him playing on the piano.
"He played Twinkle, Twinkle. I said what is this sound? I never teach him. He crawled in the chair and he played by himself. He played all the baby tunes he heard people sing or he played on the violin. He played by ear," said Olga.
From that point, it was an instant love affair with the piano. Adrian practices hours a day on his own. He's been playing alongside professional musicians since he was 5. All that practice got him just where he's always wanted to be -- at Carnegie Hall.
"It cannot be described in words. It was just unbelievable. Having that spirit of all those famous musicians coming to this one hall, Carnegie Hall and I have that spirit right at that hall," said Adrian.
He's played three times at Carnegie Hall, and he's confident they'll be more appearances. Adrian is just as happy playing at Carnegie Hall alongside the greats as he is at home playing alongside his mom.
Olga Romoff is an accomplished musician and violin teacher. Several of her students have played at Carnegie Hall.
