A man and two women died Tuesday night after the sport utility vehicle they were riding in hit a light pole and flipped over on the city's Southwest Side, police said.
The single-vehicle crash happened near West 31st Street and South Western Avenue about 8:30 p.m., as the group traveled east, authorities said.
The trio was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where they died, less than an hour later, according to authorities.
Phillip Barnes, 46, of Romeoville, died within minutes of fellow passengers Yvonne Tobias, 57, and Leantwana Roseburr, 40, who were both from Chicago, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Barnes, of the 1500 block of Ludington Circle, died at 9:20 p.m. Tobias, of the 400 block of South Homan Avenue, died 9:09 p.m. Roseburr, of the 4900 block of South Gladys Avenue, died at 9:19 p.m.
The Chicago Police Department's Major Accidents Investigation Unit was collecting details on the crash early Wednesday.
