Detectives hope to talk with witnesses to the shooting who might help them identify the killer. Meanwhile, Muirhead's mother told FOX 5 on Tuesday that what frustrates her most about her son's senseless death is that it appears the shooting was a case of mistaken identity.
Tiwana Smith and her husband Steven Connor are having a tough time comforting their heartbroken daughters and grief-stricken son. Their son Wilton was visiting friends when he was shot on Alexander Boulevard.
For someone just to take my son's life like that, it's not fair," said Smith.
Witnesses told his mother a young woman believed Murihead was the man who had touched her inappropriately, not knowing it was actually someone else in his group. According to witnesses, that woman told her boyfriend, who reportedly opened fire in retaliation.
"This was over somebody touching someone's rear, and it wasn't even my child. What point did you make when you shot my son in front of everybody?" said Murihead's mother.
Atlanta homicide detectives are not commenting on the case, but Smith says witnesses told her the gunman is well-known in the area where the shooting happened. She's hoping someone will come forward and tell police where to find him.
