Michael Carson isn't used to working from an office. Usually, he's on the sideline. He spent years coaching the ML King Lions, but what he's doing now is the groundwork for something big—something that will help college prospects make the grade in the classroom.
Word is spreading about Georgia Prep Sports Academy. They've got one semester from August to December to get their academic houses in order. They will play some football, but that isn't why they're there. Carson says his players will have to focus every day on test scores, while at the same learning leadership and time-management skills.
Who better than Carson to lead the charge? He knows about second chances. He had to resign from his head coaching role at ML King last August amid allegations he was sexting a parent.
"It happened, and you just ask for forgiveness and you move on," said Carson. "So this is definitely that platform to whereas, you know, I can get that redemption."
Clearly the kids love him and learn from him, and it's a good thing. Coaching is what he knows. It's what Michael Carson does best.
"It's in my blood, man," Carson said. "This is the greatest profession, you know, that there is."
