CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Hadiya Pendleton story has gained national attention and now tributes are pouring in as a reward continues to increase.

For the first time, Hadiya Pendleton's courageous best friends recall the final moments she was alive and remember a girl they wished was still by their side.

Pendleton was shot Tuesday, just blocks from her school on the South Side. The day was supposed to just another day of hanging out with the girls, but when it started raining, a dozen girls took cover under a canopy.

"When we got to the park, we were all just playing around on the playground," Hadiya's friend Klyn Jones explains. "Hadiya and I were swinging and talking about how we wanted to have our joint Sweet 16 because our birthdays are ten days apart."

Then, shots were fired and everyone started running south on Oakenwald to safety. Steps away, Hadiya Pendleton said she had been hit.

"Hadiya said, 'I think I got shot, did I got shot? And before someone could answer her question, she fell," Danetria Hudson recalls. "And then Lawrence said, 'I think I got shot too' and he fell with her so we looked at her back a first and saw the blood."

"'Hadiya, it's gonna be okay, it's gonna be alright. Yeah you got shot but you're gonna be fine, you're gonna be fine,'" Jones says she told Hadiya. "I was like 'I hope you're fine by June because we're gonna have so much fun at our party' and just like, 'come on, hold on, you're gonna be good.' Just trying to tell her that everything was going to be okay."

"Her face started turning pale," Hudson remembers. "All she was doing was mouthing off stuff, she didn't really talk at all.

Their friend and fellow volleyball player, Hadiya Pendleton, died at Comer Childrens Hospital.

Danetria Hudson lost her friend that night and her boyfriend, Lawrence Sellers--a junior at King College Prep--was shot in the leg.

On Friday, between 15 and 20 girls got together at a friend's house to look at pictures of Hadiya, vowing never to forget her. They say they already miss her smile and giggle.

Other friends are also remembering her with touching tributes online.

The reward for any information leading to the arrest of Hadiya Pendleton is $40,000. Police sources tell FOX 32 News that they have a number of leads in this case and witnesses are starting to come forward.

Funeral arrangements for Hadiya Pendleton are Saturday, February 9th at Greater Harvest Church on the South Side at 10 a.m.
