Rain, wind cause widespread outages

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A wind-driven rain overnight caused power outages across the tristate region. Connecticut, Long Island and New Jersey were hardest hit, but utilities made progress in restoring the lights for customers.

CT Light and Power had 11,436 customers without power Thursday night.

United Illuminating Company reported 1,117 customers in the dark.

LIPA was reporting 3,815 outages; PSE&G in New Jersey was reporting 860 customers without power and JCP&L was reporting 1,806 customers in the dark.

Con Edison reported about 81 customers without power throughout the city's five boroughs on Thursday. It had 143 customers out in Westchester County.

A few thousand utility customers across upstate New York were without power.

Wind gusts reached up to 50 miles per hour overnight snapping trees and downing power lines.

Temperatures fell throughout the day.
