Recovery of Coney Island boardwalk businesses

The small businesses on Coney Island's world-famous boardwalk are slowly getting back into the swing of things three months after Superstorm Sandy Struck.

Jimmy Kokotas, the third-generation owner of Tom's Coney Island, says it was vital Congress just signed off on the $50 billion aid package for area hurricane victims. He believes now the recovery effort will move quicker. He also says it was encouraging to see a representative from President Obama's administration visiting Coney Island to see the progress going on firsthand on Wednesday.

"The president has made it clear needs to be all hands on deck approach to supporting recovery effort here in New York," said Matt Erksine, the assistant secretary of the Economic Development Administration.

Small-business owners and hard hit agencies that desperately need help can get it from various federal resources.

Rep. Hakeem Jeffries says that the spirit of Coney Island is resilient and that although Sandy knocked people down, they are getting back on feet.
